Study Tours

The Study Tours program at the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) offers an exclusive range of tours and travel experiences for those who wish to enhance their learning experience and expand their horizons beyond the four walls of the typical classroom.

Designed and led by specialists, your study tour guide’s profound knowledge and sheer enthusiasm of the destination, culture and subject matter, makes certain you’ll have a memorable experience. With small groups and a carefully planned and paced itinerary, each tour ensures plenty of time to enjoy the ambience and savour the moment.

Our Study Tours provide flexibility to organise your own airfare and fly when and where you wish, so that extra time can be spent in a country, and include the option to bring a partner, friend or colleague to share the experience. Our expert team can assist you with all aspects of your flight plans and any additional land arrangements should you choose arrive earlier or stay a little longer.

Ever wanted to really learn the craft of photography? Join one of Sydney’s Centre for Continuing Education’s Photo Tours (CCE) and you not only get to travel with a professional photographer, but you join a bunch of like-minded people on the trip of a lifetime. CCE organises luxury tours to East Africa, Morocco, Oman, Japan, Europe and many, many more locations. Here are some of the amazing places and great images the students shot on our 17 day trip to North Africa.

Who travels on CCE Study Tours and why?

With all our tours we ask participants to give feedback. Over the years they’ve told us that the mains reasons they continuie to travel with CCE include:

  • well-delivered and carefully planned itineraries that combine intellectual engagement with enjoyment and relaxation
  • informed, passionate and caring tour leaders, many of whom present regular courses at CCE on themes relevant to tours they’re leading – ideal for those wanting to do some preliminary study
  • being with like-minded travellers who want to be part of a lively informed group, and often forming friendships that continue well after the end of the tour. The age of participants varies from 18 to 80, but many are over 46 and are independent travellers wanting the assurance that most of the technical things are taken care of
  • safety and security as a priority – if the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and TRade issues an official warning for places visited on the tour, we can the tour and give you a full refund

How fit do you have to be?

We don’t discriminate based on age, since there are travellers over the age of 80 who are more active that those under 60! However we do stress that in order to visit and enjoy archaeological sites, galleries and museums, natural attractions and the historical centres of towns it’s often necessary to walk. For most yours, in order to participate fully you should be fit enough to walk for periods of up to 90 minutes with only short breaks. We encourage you to think carefully about your ability to meet these physical demands, visit your medical practitioner well before you travel and contact the Travel Program team if you wish to discuss further demands on a specific tour.

Group flights

Group flights are chosen based on the most convenient flying route, availability and the reputation of the airline. Some airlines will allow you to extend your travel and return on a different date, subject to availability and the same flight route. Group airfares are subject to a minimum number, and if this number is not met then regular individual published fares will apply. Business and first class airfares are available on request and on most routes. As airlines generally do not release their flight schedules until 330 days prior to departure, we are not able to finalise all group airfares at the initial time of publication. Final flight schedules may therefore affect the dates of some tours. All changes will be shown on our website, and all booked participants will be notified.

Accommodation

When choosing hotels, we set a high priority on comfort, charm, atmosphere and location. While the criteria used for star ratings vary from country to country, we generally select 3-4 star hotels, though on some tours 5-star hotels are also used. Some tours venture into places that are less travelled by visitors; in such cases we sometimes use 2-star hotels as they are often the best available in these towns.

How to book

Bookings and land arrangements, including pre- and post-tour accommodation (staying at the same group of hotels) and group air travel, can be made with CCE direct by completing the booking form at the bottom of the page of every tour and returning it with a photocopy of your passport. Other additional travel arrangements will need to be made through either our preferred or your own travel agent.
